Police in Lancaster County pulled him over for speeding: 66 mph in a 45 mph zone. They arrested him for DUI.

Last Monday morning, though, sitting in the wood paneled commissioners meeting room on the fifth floor of the county courthouse, he appealed for a second chance at rehabilitation.

“I know I have an addictive personality,” he said remorsefully, adding that he had already pursued drug and alcohol counseling. “I care for my family.”

The ARD panelists considered these factors, but did not coddle him.

Cars are “missiles,” Assistant District Attorney Mark Fetterman reminded the man. Anything in front of a vehicle moving at 66 mph gets destroyed.

“Do you think it’s fair you’re asking for a fifth chance?” asked Northwest Regional Police Officer Frank H. Ember Jr., referring to the man’s previous drug related charges.

The man said he did not.

He admitted that he had driven drunk several times and had gotten away with it.

In the end, on the conditions that he stop drinking and submit to periodic alcohol tests, the panel granted his request.

“Quite honestly,” Stedman told the man and his attorney, “I don’t know if we’re making the right decision or not. We’re going to take a risk on you . so please do not let us down. Do not kill someone.”This story, part of a Sunday News series on driving under the influence, takes a look at ARD and the ARD review panel that Stedman launched about six months ago.

Five of the 11 ARD cases heard Monday by the panel involved DUIs. (Please see related story for a roundup of the other cases.)

One DUI case involved a waitress given 10 additional hours of community service so she could continue in the ARD program.

Names and specific details of the offenses have been omitted. Decisions in several of the cases are pending.

The panel meets once a month and comprises Ember,

who volunteers his time, Stedman and a rotating roster of attorneys from his office.

Last week’s reviewers included Assistant District Attorney Carolyn Flannery. Also providing input were Tracey Barley, who coordinates the DUI component of the ARD program, and Melissa Kurtz, coordinator of the non DUI component.

Lancaster defense attorney Steven L. Breit said the panel is the first of its kind he’s seen in 22 years of practice.

“Now you’re dealing with a human being whose name was on the application,” said Breit, who represented one of the DUI offenders Monday, as well as a woman accused of lying to police.

“I was impressed with how the program ran” Breit added. “They are the last arbiter” of a defendant’s future “and they are taking it seriously.”

Stedman said he got the idea for the panel one night while mulling over an applicant.

The printed form did not provide sufficient context, said Stedman, who recalled thinking “Boy, I don’t know what to do with this ARD. You know what? I want to meet him.”

Face time gives prosecutors a better grasp of whether a person will stay out of trouble in the future, according to Stedman, who added that the ARD program is typically for first time offenders.

The rubber stamp alternative, a couple of days in a cell, “may or may not work,
ugg australia australia Where offenders plead
” the district attorney said. “We want a long term resolution that they’re not going to drive drunk again.”

ugg boots bailey button Why Americans and Australians get along well together

ugg youth Why Americans and Australians get along well together

I am from neither of the countries just an outside unbiased observer. I lived in Australia for 4 years and have been living in America for the last 11 years. This is my personal opinion based on my experience in both the nations.

1. Most Americans prefer Australians than English men. However, Australians think Americans are God (literally), they worship Americans specially if they are from New York or LA.

2. I have lived in East coast, West Coast and currently live in the Mid West America. I also lived in Sydney and Perth. Most Australians I came across were little biased (likely racist) when it came to a different race particularly against asians and brown skins. They also made racist comments as if it is normal. However, Americans are not at all racial in big cities, however in mid west and smaller towns, you may feel they are racist but at least they do not make racial comments like their Aussie counterparts.

3. I think Aussies wants to be Americans they like Americana stuff.

Australians do not worship Americans. In fact Australians are very anti america if USA trys to change our country or take our Ugg boots. Australia culture is can be very welcoming and friendly at the same time as racist and xenophobic (i know cause I am Aussie). Should people get uptight about Australia being a racist country (compared to some countries)? nope. when i say racist i mean culturally insensitive eg calling Aboriginal Australians: abo’s, Americans: yanks (or seppos), British: pommies, Japanese: japs, south and north koreans: japs, vietnamese: japs (basically we say they all look alike, because they do!). New Zealanders), similar to USA and Canada having a cousin like relationship.

This is the main reason why Americans are fascinated with Australia(ns): We are welcoming and laid back which is directly opposite to the USA way of life where its all rushing around and serious. Australia is the retirement village of the world.

“Crocodile Dundee” is mainly responsible for the mass interest of Australia and Australians by the Americans.

Americans like Australians because they ‘talk funny’ and have a ‘weird culture’ with a ‘weird but funny dialect’.

Australians like Americans because of the ‘fame’ we have while amongst Americans. If Americans are over here in Australia, we have an interest in them (Americans) because eccentric dialect, customs and culture and because of their niave USA centred knowledge of the world which causes them to be like funny sounding childen exploring the unknown 😛 (eg “Woh i had no idea Oostralia was this cool”)

In summary Americans are fascinated with Australia and Australians because we are very different (‘upside down and back to front’ eg cars drive on the left in Australia as apposed to cars driving on the right in USA). The reason why Australia have an interest in Americans is almost the exact but ‘vice versa’ reasons to why Americans are fascinated with Australia.

One last point i would like to mention: although Australia and USA are very patriotic countries in their own respect, they are very mirrored in their cultures eg censorship:

Australia violence high to very high censor, USA violence very low censor.

Australia nudity low censor, USA nudity moderate to high censor.

Australia language very low censor, USA language very high censor.

in USA you can’t even say or hell on TV. what the?

Australians have had a bitter relationship with the japanese since ww2. Just in the last 12 months Australia and Japan have been angryly arguing over the right to whale whales out into extinction or not (Australia being pro whales, and japan being glutenous and lying about how whales are needed for scientific research when they are just eating them. i say bomb the whaling boats who illegally enter Australian waters)

Chinese are invading all sorts of countries by their mass numbers of emmigration. In Sydney there are all sorts of cultures and nationalities who are not assimilating into Australian culture but instead are trying to overtake it. some examples are the muslims, chinese, vietnamese, japanese. I say revoke naturalisation for those who come into Australia to try and change our country, refuse to assimilate into Australian cuture and then deport them!!!

We do have problems with Asian illegals. However, The majority of Asians, Aren’t Border Jumping “Boat People”! They’ve come through the right immigration channels and while many do choose, Not too fit into Australia’s Egalitarian society. Most do quite well in both society and the workplace .

Unfortunately though. The war time connections and resentments, Are still very stigmatising for many Asians, As It’s taken some time, For many White Australians. To stop being concerned about an Asian face and the threat of invasion, Or Communist doctrine. That it once represented!

uggs classic What to know about Mike Pettine

ugg slippers for kids What to know about Mike Pettine

Here is a brief introduction to the 51 year old Pettine:Pettine enjoyed an impressive four year stint as the New York Jets’ defensive coordinator under Rex Ryan from 2009 12. He has utilized a 3 4 scheme in the past built around blitzing and press man coverage.

During those four seasons, Pettine’s defenses held opposing passers to an NFL low 71.0 quarterback rating, completion percentage (52.6 percent), and passing yards (186.3 yards per game).

New York yielded the second fewest yards per game (294.8) and posted a 34.6 third down efficiency mark while holding their opponents to an average of 20.0 points per game (seventh fewest in the league).

New York’s defense recorded 115 takeaways in Pettine’s four year tenure the second most in the AFC (seventh in the NFL). New York had nine 100 yard receiving games against from 2009 2012, the fewest in the league.

During Pettine’s first year as defensive coordinator in 2009, the Jets topped the second place Packers to lead the NFL in total defense (252.3 yards per game) and also ranked first in pass defense (153.7 passing yards per game). New York then finished third, fifth and eighth in total defense over the next three years. 23, 2014. He served two seasons as head coach, presiding over the last Browns team to hold a winning record (7 4) midway through his inaugural campaign in 2014.

Pettine has been out of coaching since the conclusion of his second and final season in Cleveland in 2015.

Breaking in to the pros

Pettine broke into the NFL as defensive assistant with the Baltimore Ravens in 2002.

He won 45 games during his five seasons at North Penn, including an 11 2 mark in 1999. While at William Tennent, Pettine led the program to a school record nine wins in 1996.

Family ties

His father, Mike, Sr., was the head coach for 33 years at Central Bucks West High School, where Pettine earned all state honors as a quarterback and defensive back. He later served as an assistant coach on his father’s staff for five seasons (1988 92).

Mike Sr., retired in 1999 as the winningest coach in the history of Pennsylvania high school football with a career record of 326 32 4.

A two year letterman as a free safety at Virginia, Pettine led the team in interceptions in 1986, including tying a school record with three in one game against North Carolina State. He graduated with a degree in economics.

Rejoice the return of the Ugg (Picture: Ugg/Ben Rayner)

Cast your mind back to 2002 and, chances are, the predominant image that will pop into your mind is the UGG boot, otherwise known as the shoe version of a hangover.

It was a boot that gloried in being ugly, that left us all walking on the ankles, went soggy the second it rained and never recovered, but was so comfortable, we forgave it all those sins and determinedly carried on wearing them anyway (sometimes with mini skirts, which made absolutely no sense).

Well, that boot is back.

Last week, Alexa Chung announced her collaboration with the brand and, with that, sealed what the fashion world has been attempting to do for a good year now: she made UGGs viable again.

Alexa Chung art directed the photoshoot for Ugg rebooted 2.0 Ugg boot (Picture: Ugg/Ben Rayner)

Now, for all the naysayers out there that remember 2002 and greet this with horror, I hear you.

Rebooting a shoe once known as wellies hardly feels like a crowning moment for anyone. But this is where you are going wrong.

The return of the UGG is actually good news for all of us, as half of Vogue’s editorial team has already discovered. How can you argue with Vogue? Answer: you can’t.

Teva sandals and Ugg boots have collaborated and people are reeling

Sure, they may have lacked in obvious style,
ugg boots official site Why you need to rethink your view on Ugg boots
durability and any form of water proofing, but that’s all changed with the launch of the UGG 2.0, which actually keeps water out, and a take on the classic that has a slimmer profile and promises to keep its shape. What is this if not magic and wizardry?

And let’s not forget that UGGs are so far the only shoes to date that have managed to make wearing slippers to work legitimate, which is no small thing.

That’s basically why half the western world started wearing them in the first place and then didn’t take them off for the whole of 2002 2003.

You may scoff now, with your structured footwear that doesn’t collapse in on itself within a week of use, but come January and the New Year hangover, you’ll be grateful for that soft, fluffy lining that is capable of keeping the cold out like no other.

Besides, the return of the UGG is about more than just the boot itself anyway; it marks a bigger fashion movement that is going on this season: to bring back functional and wearable clothing that you might actually welcome putting on when you peel yourself out of bed in the morning.

See also the oversized everything, down filled puffer jackets and sleeves so long they finish a good foot after your fingers do.

Casual observers could point out all these clothes can be hideously ugly too and that maybe that’s the real movement the UGG is a part of, but let’s ignore those dissenting voices and focus instead on the perks: fashion is being kind to us and giving us trends we actually want to wear, for once, and that’s something to be grateful for.
