The BBC is facing criticism after it invited its former economics editor Stephanie Flanders a renowned Remainer back to present the Today programme.

Insiders suggested the move was part of a bid to include more Alpha females.

Miss Flanders was so vocal in her opposition to Brexit that she appeared in a TV advert aired a fortnight before the referendum vote urging voters to block it.

She also donated to one of the lobby groups behind a scaremongering billboard campaign this year designed to water down Brexit.

However, these clear ties to the Remain camp did not bar Miss Flanders from presiding over one of the BBCs most important current affairs shows.

Controversial choice: ‘Alpha female’ Stephanie Flanders has appeared in adverts opposing Brexit

The 49 year old was a guest presenter yesterday alongside Justin Webb and was lined up to take the helm again this morning even though Today already has five permanent hosts, who are paid nearly 1.5million a year between them.

Isnt it a bit insulting to the BBCs many equally brilliant reporters that she waltzes in over them? Stephen Pollard, editor of the Jewish Chronicle, wrote on Twitter. Another listener joked: Does Stephanie Flanders presenting with Justin Webb mean theres been a Ryanair style mess up with the [Today] holiday rota?

Other critics said the BBC had breached its impartiality rules.

Miss Flanders was at the BBC for 11 years, but left in 2013 for JP Morgan Asset Management where she was paid 400,000 a year as chief market strategist for Britain and Europe. She quit that job in the summer and is poised to join Bloomberg as the head of its new economics unit.

She is listed as one of the donors to a lobby group called Common Ground, which claims to be fighting to pull our country together at a time when other forces are threatening to tear it apart.

It was one of the sponsors of a poster campaign in February which featured a series of faces with stickers over their mouths, printed with the words: We did not vote forprice hikes, hate crime, leaving the single market, losing our families, brutal Brexit, deal or no deal.

The emotive campaign ended with the slogan, People are speaking. Is Parliament listening?

Critics have saidthe BBC had breached its impartiality rules

The BBC regularly brings celebrities in as guest editors around Christmas but usually gets stand in hosts from its large pool of staff journalists. Economics editor Kamal Ahmed and security correspondent Frank Gardner presented Today over the summer.

But insiders said it was trying to get more Alpha females on the programme and had brought in Miss Flanders in the same way that magazines and newspapers might invite guest columnists.

It has asked acclaimed CNN host Christiane Amanpour and the BBCs China editor Carrie Gracie to present the programme in coming weeks. A source said: Today is for grown ups and Stephanie has a good understanding of subjects, and she sounds like she is on top of things. She is heavyweight.

They added: When she is on the BBC, she is neutral. The insider pointed out that Miss Flanders did not present any of the discussions about Brexit on the programme.

New Yorker Amis: Brexit is a ‘self inflicted wound’

Novelist Martin Amis yesterday launched a tirade against Brexit, calling it a self inflicted wound.

I think it is a self inflicted wound and I dont like the kind of nostalgic utopia thats been mooted about,
ugg mens boots Radio 4 invites Stephanie Flanders to host Today
that it would return to just the sort of England that I dont like, which is the country town, rustic, beer drinking, family butcher England, he said.

But his remarks got a hostile reception from some Radio 4 listeners, who accused him of sneering at the plebs who want Britain to leave Europe.

Others were angered by his whining, given he has made his home in the US. Martin Amis from New York talking about Brexit and England. Well done Today programme, said one.

The novelist best known for books such as Money and London Fields added: To step away from what was a political coalition and go it alone seems like denial of decline.

A BBC spokesman said: On occasion we have guest presenters across our programmes, and whether its Nick Ferrari on Newsnight or Stephanie Flanders on Today they always adhere to BBC rules on impartiality. She would not comment on Miss Flanders pay for the work, but it is understood she received a peppercorn rate for presenting Today, amounting to 200 300 per day.

Nick Robinson, one of Todays regular presenters, may have been too busy to host the programme yesterday but he still found the time for a public game of one upmanship with BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg.

Miss Kuenssberg, who succeeded Robinson in the post in 2015, published a message on Twitter offering a sliver of insight into the landmark Brexit speech Theresa May will give today in Florence. Cabinet to sign off Florence speech this morn on whats described as open and generous offer to EU by one minister who is familiar with it, she wrote shortly after 7am.

Less than 20 minutes later, Robinson embarrassed Miss Kuenssberg by republishing her message along with his own,

A telesales firm has been found guilty of race discrimination for forcing an Indian employee to anglicise his name.

An employment tribunal ruled that Rahul Jain, 28, had been unfairly made to change his name to Rob Matthews.

Mr Jains employers, Teachers 2 Parents Ltd, which is owned by Indians, claimed English names were easier for customers to spell in emails. They said customers had struggled with Indian names.

Other Indian employees allegedly had their names changed too, including a woman called Sarbjit who became known as Sally and a man called Prakhash who was called Terry.

The tribunal ruled that the school software companys policy was not a proportionate way to stop emails going astray and that it was enforced on Indian employees while white colleagues were allowed to keep their names.

After the hearing Mr Jain, of Leicester, said: I was the only person in the company to challenge what was happening. They had a policy for all Asians to change their names. There were at least 30 other people of Indian origin who did this and are still working there. What the company did is outrageous and totally racist.

Teachers 2 Parents was founded in 2007 by Suresh Patel, 37, and Uresh Naik, 36. The Leicester based firm soon had a multi million pound turnover.

Mr Jain joined in September 2009. His job was to cold call schools to sell a new product.

The panel was told that Mr Naik and Mr Patel explained that in the early days of recruiting staff to telesales, emails from customers had gone missing and when this was investigated by Mr Patel it was discovered that staff email addresses had been misspelt by customers.

The tribunal heard the firm had a number of staff of Indian ethnic origin who adopted anglicised names at work. They included Aarti (Anna), Mehul (Max), Sarbjit (Sally), Meera (Marie), Neeraj (Neil), Prakhash (Terry), Jaspal (Jay), Jayna (Jane) and Faizal (Fred).

These names were not only adopted as email addresses, but staff used the names in making calls and around the office to each other, the tribunal heard.

Shocking: Rahul Jain was known as Rob Matthews after his company, Teachers 2 Parents deemed it was ‘easier’

On his first day, Mr Jain picked the name Rob but the tribunal heard he would have preferred to maintain his birth name at work because he was proud of it, and was unhappy at having to change names.

But he soon realised this would have been very difficult even if it had been an option.

In September last year Mr Jain declined to apply for a new, similar position in the company. His employment was terminated a day later.

The tribunal ruled this amounted to unfair dismissal. The judgment said: If the firm was serious that the name change was optional it was incumbent to communicate that real choice. The tribunal considers that the respondents instruction to the claimant to adopt an anglicised name subjected him to a detriment to which it would not have subjected white colleagues and that occurred because of the claimants race.

Mr Patel said his company was considering an appeal: We have never forced or suggested to staff to change their names. If the claim is true why would we employ such a wide variety of people from different origins?

While the annual lingerie show is consistently a smashing hit that calls forth major supermodels and A list talent alike, this year’s display promises to be an even more novel occasion than ever before. For starters, the casting directors are majorly shaking up the model call sheet after former Angels Karlie Kloss and Doutzen Kroes returned their wings (also note that while she was still with the brand as of last year’s show, Lindsay Ellingson did not longer walk as an official Angel). And keeping pace with the rapid fire success of Instagram star models, the VS directors have plucked Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner as the newest recruits for the annual fashion show.

With news of Kendall’s ascension to almost Angel today and Gigi’s dream casting announcement made just last week, there’s guaranteed to be a big buzz around the runway’s two newest faces. But, they’re not the only new girls on the block perhaps not the last to be announced, either (we’re still crossing our fingers for Gigi’s little sis Bella Hadid, who did already land a VS Pink Holiday campaign, mind you).

Bear in mind, the current Victoria’s Secret runway show roster now includes Pink’s resident spokesmodel Rachel Hilbert, who (surprisingly) has yet to take the VS runway until this year. She has, however, appeared in a number of steamy campaigns, including a particularly cheeky one with Gigi.

Oh, and let’s not forget about the 10 (read new Angels replacing Karlie, Doutzen and Lindsay (although many have already walked in the show as mere ‘models’). Of course, they’ll join veteran Angel forces Candice Swanepoel, Behati Prinsloo, Alessandra Ambrosio, Adriana Lima and Lily Aldridge been bestowed the ultimate honor of wearing the $2 million fantasy bra the show returns to New York City this year.

So while you’re already acquainted with Gigi, Kendall, Bella (maybe) and Rachel, get a refresher on the newest Angel faces below keep your ears open for news of even more exciting casting announcements (we sure will!).

ugg australia australia Questions To Ask A Tattoo Artist Before Getting A Tattoo

infants ugg boots Questions To Ask A Tattoo Artist Before Getting A Tattoo

ARTICLE REPRINTING IS PERMITTED

If you are thinking of getting a tattoo, take the time to talk with your tattoo artist. During the conversation, make sure to have a list of questions that you would like answered prior to moving forward with your decision. Below are a few questions that you should consider asking:

How long have you been in business? This is important in determining how professional the work will be and what type of reputation the business has. If the tattoo studio is a member of the Better Business Bureau, check out their record to see about any complaints that have been initiated within the previous 36 months.

What are your qualifications? Before you see a doctor, isn’t it important to know that they are qualified? Absolutely. The same is true with a tattoo artist. Even though the two professions are completely different, there are similarities in that both involve the use of needles and both professionals must be knowledgeable in their approach at sterilizing their equipment. An individual’s qualifications and training history will tell you a lot about what to expect.

Do you guarantee your work? If the final image isn’t exactly as you had hoped for, will it be fixed at no charge or what is the process if you are unhappy with the tattoo? Is there any type of refund policy? These are all important in determining service after the sale.

Can I see samples of your work or do you have references? If you want to know about the quality of work, you should always ask for references in any business.

How much will this cost? Before agreeing to a specific tattoo design, you will want to know the full cost involved. Large tattoos can be very costly, but even the smallest design can be expensive if you are on a budget. Do yourself a favor and avoid any surprises ask about the costs upfront.

How many tattoos have you done? This will give you a good indication of the experience level and how much design work the artist has done.

What is the likelihood of an infection and how may I prevent one from occurring? Every good tattoo artist can provide this information. He/she should be able to tell you what to do to lessen the likelihood of an infection and what to do if you suspect that one may be developing.

Is there anyone who should not get a tattoo, such as someone with certain medical conditions? This is important, especially if you are asking because you have a condition that concerns you. Individuals with thin blood, for instance, may be more cautious about anything that involves breaking the skin or needles. The same is true of individuals with other conditions, which should be addressed prior to agreeing to be tattooed.

If I have a fear of needles,
ugg australia australia Questions To Ask A Tattoo Artist Before Getting A Tattoo
is there any way to help me through the process of getting a tattoo? Don’t feel bad if this is you. A lot of people have a fear of needles, which is a device used in creating tattoos. If you are afraid, it never hurts to explain this to the tattoo artist beforehand so that he/she can try to take extra steps to make you feel at ease or to make the experience a less painful one for you.

How long will the tattooing process take? This is important, especially if you are getting a tattoo on your lunch break. All kidding aside, you will want to know how long to expect the process to take so that you can plan the rest of your day accordingly.

Selecting A Tattoo Parlor

When considering a tattoo, it is important to do some research on the tattoo parlor before deciding to hire them. There are several questions that every customer should ask before even considering hiring a tattoo artist.

Temporary Tattoos A Permanent Solution

These days, more and more individuals are deciding to permanently leave their mark on their own skin. If done by a qualified tattoo artist, the risks may be minimal. Unfortunately for many, however, unsanitary equipment or later appearing infections are creating big problems for tattoo enthusiasts.

What To Expect From Tattoo Removal

For one reason or another,

individuals often decide to have a tattoo removed. Perhaps it depicts a former love that is no longer a part of that person’s life or perhaps they just no longer want that specific tattoo on their body.

Cops shot a man dead in Queens after he fired on them Wednesday, an eyewitness and police sources said.

Police rushed to the scene after receiving calls that a 30 year old white man fired a shot seemingly unprovoked into the ceiling of the SBS Hillside bar on Hillside Ave. and 168th St.

“The guy just snapped,” said bouncer Eric Vincent, 45. “Everything changed in a split second. Everything was good, everybody was having a good time, and it all changed in a split second.”

Vincent said the gunman, who he had never seen before, had been talking with a regular at the bar before he started shouting and pulled out a black pistol.

“The shooter was sitting there with Raymond, everybody was doing their thing watching TV, listening to music and all of a sudden the shooter tells Ray, ‘Get away! Get away! Don’t touch me!’

“Then he pulls a gun out and he’s just aiming down for like half a minute, like letting everybody know he had it. Then he just raised up and shot the ceiling,” Vincent recounted.

The bouncer said the gunman then ordered the patrons to leave and for Raymond to follow him.

“He yells,

‘Everybody get out!’ and then told Raymond to ‘Come with me. Let’s go.’ Then he started walking to the door by himself, so I told Raymond to come to the back of the bar.”

By that point, the bar’s manager and several other people had already called police to report the unhinged shooter, Vincent said.

Responding officers quickly pulled up to the scene in both marked and unmarked patrol cars, according to Vincent.

“I told them he was wearing a blue jacket and ran up the hill and the cop said, ‘Get in,’ to help ID the guy.”

As cops descended on the unidentified man from the north and south on 168th Pl. between Hillside and Highland Aves., pinching him between them, the man turned and fired a shot at them, Vincent and police sources said.

“He was in the middle and cops was coming up both ways and I guess he felt trapped and started shooting,” Vincent said.

“I heard them yell, ‘Shots fired! Shots fired!’ over the radio,” he said. “I was a little scared. I just crouched in the back seat and stayed down.”

Oklahoma City’s newest shopping experience is opening its doors today. in the east end of the Quail Springs Shopping Center on Memorial Road.

Von Maur offers shopping as an experience, and one that will entice shoppers to keep coming back.

If the moderately priced upscale fashions and accessories are not enough to draw shoppers out, then perhaps the grand piano being played by one of four pianists on staff, or the antique furniture displayed throughout the store (no it is not for sale, only for looking at) or flat screen televisions in the men’s shoe department will be the catalyst to draw shoppers into the newly opened department store. Von Maur has completely remodeled the space once used by Sears on the east end of the mall.

Store manager Jessica Stetler is a transplant from Michigan who came to Oklahoma by way of New York where she opened the company’s 29th store.

The department store chain has stores located primarily in the Midwestern United States and sells mid priced brand name apparel, accessories, cosmetics, gifts, jewelry and shoes. Stores also feature minimal signage and plush seating throughout. Regionally, it competes on the same level as Dillard’s, Lord Taylor and Macy’s.

“Our company started in 1872 in Iowa as a dry goods store, and our stores are primarily based in the Midwest,” Stetler said, “Oklahoma City is our 30th store we will have opened, and its open concept covers 150,000 square feet.”

Service will be provided throughout the store by a staff of 150 associates working in each of the departments.

“Our staff will be knowledgeable and able to help our shoppers with their needs,” Stetler said. “Shoppers can find a wide range of wearables including shoes, handbags and accessories.”

The ever popular Ralph Lauren and Eileen Fisher brands are joined by Ming Wang, Ted Baker, Hudson and French Connection in the women’s section, while the men can shop for Vineyard Vines and Joules to round out their wardrobes.

For mothers shopping in the children’s area, there is an interactive tree, play table and a television with child appropriate viewing.

“Our women’s lounge is like walking into a home and we have a changing area for moms to change their baby’s diaper and a rocking chair for nursing moms,” Stetler said.

“We want to provide an atmosphere or an environment for our customers that will make shopping an experience. We want them to feel comfortable while they are in the store shopping, and we invite them to sit down and listen as one of our four staff pianists play. There will be live or recorded piano music playing while the store is open throughout the day,” Stetler said.
