ugg boots josette Beavers look to bolster team on signing day
The Beavers got an early signee at the position in Jake Dukart, and Arizona Western quarterback Jack Colletto announced his intention to sign with OSU last Friday.
Colletto is a 6 foot 3, 220 pound dual threat QB who was down to the Beavers and Vanderbilt. He is from Camas, Washington, and decided to return to the Pacific Northwest.
Colletto led Camas High to a 14 0 season and a state title as a senior in 2016, and was named the Washington player of the year. When none of the offers from four year schools seemed to be the right fit, Colletto chose to go the junior college route for a season.
Rival high school coaches described Colletto as similar in athletic ability to former UW QB Jake Locker.
“I would say that he’s a much more accurate passer than Locker ever was,” Battle Ground coach Larry Peck told the Tacoma Tribune. “He just carves you up. But like Jake, he is not one bit afraid of contact. He’ll take on bigger guys than him, and how he doesn’t get injured, I don’t know.”
Nearly all of the commits hold three star ratings, but the Beavers do have a verbal from a four star player.
Oregon State, Nebraska, Utah and Washington State were all in the running for four star athlete/linebacker Matthew Tago. It looks like the Beavers won out, as Tago has made a verbal commitment to OSU.
Tago is 6 3, 228 and also holds offers from Boise State, BYU, Colorado and USC, among others. He committed to UCLA last summer but decommitted in December. He was recruited to OSU by inside linebackers coach Trent Bray.
Tago was a dual threat quarterback on offense at Quartz Hill High in Lancaster, Calfiornia, where he threw for 3,173 yards with 38 touchdowns and had eight interceptions as a senior. He rushed for 500 yards and 16 scores.
“I think me just being able to escape the pocket and just change the game with my legs is a big part of my game,” Tago told the Omaha World Herald. “I’m not scared to hit, either, so if I have to I’ll run somebody over and be physical on the quarterback side.”
What could have been a stacked depth chart at running back has thinned some with Ryan Nall entering the NFL draft and Thomas Tyner’s announcement that he is moving on from football.
Jermar Jefferson, a 5 10, 188 pound three star RB from Redondo Beach, California, has given Oregon State a verbal commitment. Jefferson also had offers from Colorado, Rutgers, Colorado State and Hawaii.
The Beavers are after three star wide receiver Nikia Jones (6 3, 200) from Wagoner, Oklahoma.
OSU seems to be the leader for Jones, who is also being recruited by Eastern Michigan, Iowa State, Kansas and North Texas.
Three star receivers Mason Starling (6 4, 185), Kobe Smith (6 2, 174), Andre Hunt (6 0, 175) and Jared Miles (6 1, 185) all have strong interest in OSU.
The Beavers are battling Nebraska and Washington State for Smith, and Nebraska and San Diego State for Hunt.
At tight end, the Beavers have a verbal commitment from John McCartan, a 6 5, 225 pound athlete who could play on defense.
McCartan is a three star recruit who also has been offered by Vanderbilt and Washington State.
The offensive line could use depth and the Beavers will be looking to fill a starting spot or two as well.
It came down to Arizona and Oregon State for three star tackle Joshua Gray (6 4, 245) from Rancho Cucamonga and the Beavers won out for a verbal commitment.
Arizona State, San Diego State and Hawaii have also offered Gray.
The Beavers are high on the list of three star tackle Xavier Delgado (6 5, 300), who is also being recruited by Arizona State, Arizona and Iowa State.
OSU also seems to be the frontrunner for three star guard Sione Veikoso (6 6, 290) from Kailua, Hawaii. Veikoso also has offers from BYU and Washington State.
The defensive line needs bolstering with both starters and depth. The Beavers have a verbal from Ronnie Audette (6 3, 310), a three star tackle out of Elk River, Minnesota, who decommitted from North Dakota State.
Audette was offered by Missouri as well as Navy, New Mexico and Northern Illinois, among others. He could wind up on the offensive line.
The Beavers are particularly thin at defensive end.
OSU signed defensive end Bradley Bickler in the early period and have a verbal from defensive tackle Jeromy Reichner out of Los Angeles Valley College.
Reichner is 6 2, 285 and moved around quite a bit on the defensive line in JC, showing that he has the ability to play some defensive end.
