I have to start this by saying I am not a mega fan of the Pumpkin Spice Latte. It’s not because I don’t enjoy it, it’s simply because I’d rather eat my weight in sugar than drink it. Full disclosure; I don’t even drink coffee. If I’m ever at Starbucks, I’m going order a hot chocolate like a child, because my little rabbit heart can’t handle caffeine. As far as Butterbeer goes, the Harry Potter inspired latte is on the Starbucks secret menu. That being said, I’ve never cared enough to try it, partially because I hadn’t seen the Harry Potter movies until roughly two months ago. Yet, for some reason, I still pitched this story to my editors, and here I am, writing this after drinking both. Why am I doing this in the first place? Because the world needs to know which fall drink is worth putting in their mouths.
I went to Starbucks this morning and put myself in diarrhea’s way, all because I heart you guys. Let’s start with the classic PSL. According to the Starbucks website, a grande contains 380 calories, 14 grams of fat, 52 grams of carbs, 50 grams of sugar and 14 grams of protein. If you’re a carb or sugar counter, just close your eyes and pretend you never saw those numbers. Sugar count wasn’t listed, but I imagine this drink is as problematic as getting an IV of melted Snickers. The BB Latte consists of whole milk, caramel, toffee, and cinnamon syrup, whipped cream and caramel chunks. So fall it hurts. I couldn’t finish because I was a literal fart factory after like five sips.
TMI, but you’ve been warned. It’s unfortunate because it was as delish as you’d expect a frosting coated Xanax would be. Oh, and the whole Harry Potter connection made it worth my visit to Toilet Island. While we’re keeping things awkward, I want to warn you how inconvenient it is to order this. You can see from the pic; it looks like the barista was cramming for the SAT’s on my cup.
While the PSL was tasty, that’s the only thing it had going on. It didn’t make me feel like I was walking on cupcakes like the BBL. It was basically like drinking a candle. That said, in the BBL v. PSL war, who won me over? The BBL is the fallest of them all. The PSL is just so hyped; it’s time we take off our Ugg boots, quit being basic, and give another drink the spotlight this fall.
