Phil McKinley, MBP executive artistic director and Augustana alum, knows Mr. Lasker, and he will direct the play in August, company manager Christina Myatt said this week. “He’s wanted to see the show done for years. Part of the mission of Mississippi Bend Players is also to do original works,” she said.
New Augustana faculty member Shelley Cooper will direct “Big River” in June, and Cory Johnson will direct “Glass Menagerie” in July.
MBP is a professional regional theater, and all actors are paid. Stipends are on a sliding scale, and housing will be available for those not living in the Quad Cities, according to the company.
Those auditioning for all three shows should prepare a one minute monologue and 16 bars of a contemporary pop/rock musical theater song. If you are not auditioning for “Big River,” you do not need to prepare a musical selection. You may be asked to read/sing from the script/score or dance.

Internships are available in costumes, lighting, marketing/public relations, properties, sound, stage management, scene shop, and wigs and makeup. Interns also may be cast in shows.
Intern contracts run from June 3 to Aug. 14, 2018. Interns generally work six 10 hour days per week, with one hour off for both lunch and dinner. Additional hours may be required.
