More than 250 music students from St. Edward School in Conception Bay South, St. Paul Junior High School in St. John and Brookside Intermediate of Portugal Cove St. Cook Recital Hall in the MUN School of Music on Thursday (Feb. 8) morning to participate in the Sing In/Play In event as part of the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra (NSO) Symphony Goes to School and Beyond program.
With the help of school rehearsals prior to Thursday event, the students played a special arrangement of the to Joy theme from Beethoven 9th Symphony complete with choir and a variety of instruments (arranged by Timothy Brennan).

Accompanying the students was the NSO Atlantic String Quartet (ASQ),
consisting of Heather Kao (concertmaster, and principal violin), Nancy Case Oates (principal second violin), Kate Read (principal viola) and Theo Weber (principal cello).
Marc David, music director and principal conductor of the NSO conducted the event with assistance from Kerri MacPhee, the NSO RBC conducting apprentice for 2017 18) along with NSO Education and Community Outreach Co ordinator, Jennifer Brennan and educational consultant,
Dr. Andrea Rose.
